bmibaby announce lucky winners of Jersey student bursary award
Low cost airline, bmibaby, has today announced the lucky winners of the bmibaby student bursary award, launched in partnership with Careers Jersey.
The award gives three Jersey island residents three return flights a year for the duration of their university degree course. The flights to East Midlands, Manchester or Cardiff, can be used at the start and end of the academic year, and will also give the students a chance to return home during term time if necessary. In addition the three lucky students will each be allowed to take up to an additional 20 kilos in baggage, taking their total baggage allowance to 38 kilos at no extra charge.
The lucky winners are:
Jacob Le Breton from Trinity, travelling to East Midlands Airport. He is studying Wildlife Conservation at Nottingham Trent University.
Nathalie Gallichan from St. Mary, travelling to Manchester Airport. She is studying Dentistry at Leeds University.
Charlotte Bayliss from St John, travelling to Cardiff Airport. She will be studying Physiotherapy at The University of Cardiff.
Julian Carr, managing director, bmibaby, said:
“We received an overwhelming response for our student bursary award, with over 200 students applying.
"The bursary launched in partnership with Careers Jersey, will make the students’ journeys to university even easier, with three return flights per academic year and up to 38 kg of baggage allowance.
"We remain committed to flying from Jersey, and we look forward to welcoming the winning students onboard very soon.”
Andrew Gibb, Head of Careers & Learning Support, Careers Jersey, said:
“This has been a very welcome initiative. The difficulty of getting belongings to and from the UK is a very real one for local students and for the three winners this bursary will be a great help during their time at University. We are very grateful to bmibaby for their involvement and hope to see this continue in future years.”
