Birmingham Airport is urging people not to travel to the Airport site to see The Pope on Sunday 19th September, when he departs back to Italy after the four day Papal visit, as there will be no public viewing point.
John Morris, the Airport’s Head of Industry and Government Affairs, said, “To avoid disappointment, we strongly advise people wishing to see The Pope not to come to the Airport as the departure event will take place in a restricted zone, away from all public areas.
“Due to the impact this visit may have on local roads, we also encourage anyone travelling from Birmingham Airport in the afternoon of Sunday 19th September to leave more time for their journey and to expect to see a more visible Police presence on site.”
It was confirmed last week that The Pope will travel along a stretch of the Hagley Road in the Popemobile, for those who want to see His Holiness and do not have a ticket for the mass at Cofton Park.
The events of the day, including the Airport departure, will also be televised on BBC2.
